01 / ABOUT DR. DEB

A person.
Not a problem.

A conversation with Dr. Deb begins with the whole person: their strengths, their relationships, and the experiences beneath the patterns.

THE ART OF UNDERSTANDING

DR. DEB HIRSCHHORN, PH.D.

Curiosity before
judgment.

Dr. Deb’s published philosophy is direct: a person is more than a difficult moment or a familiar defense. Her work asks what is strong, resourceful, and worth understanding in the person before her.

Marriage and Family Therapy brings relationships into view. The individual matters, and so does the context around them: the family, the couple, and the ways people respond to one another.

A FOUNDATION IN LEARNING

Experience,
with perspective.

Dr. Deb earned her Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy at Nova Southeastern University in 2001. Her earlier studies include a master’s degree at Drake University and undergraduate psychology at Queens College.

Her professional biography describes scholarly writing, presentations, and work with individuals and couples. That background informs a strengths-based perspective rather than reducing a person to a label.

A CONTINUING INQUIRY

Understanding
the protective parts.

Her biography describes training in Internal Family Systems, including Intimacy From The Inside Out for couples. In her writing, she returns to the protective purpose beneath difficult emotional reactions.

Compassion is not the same as overlooking what hurts. It is a way to become more curious about a reaction while keeping its effects on other people in view.
